OAT STRAW EXTRACT

Oats or Avena sativa part of the grass family has been part of the human diet since the dawn of civilization, believed to be first domesticated in Syria around 3000 years ago where it spread into Europe and became a major food staple. Oat Straw is the green unripe part of the plant either the leaves or stem, and is marketed as green oats or wild oat extract.

During the middle ages the oat straw became known for its medicinal properties, Saint Hildegard of Bingen, a nun and herbalist born in 1098 in what now present-day Germany is, considered oats to be a “happiness” herb fusion with its medicinal qualities was used to treat nervous system disease and debility.

It is high in nutrients such as calcium along with other minerals, protein and the spectrum of B vitamins, excepting vitamin B-12, this high content of vitamin B may be one reason that oat straw tea has such a beneficial action on stress.
